Anambra Senatorial Aspirant Pledges Prioritisation Of Education, Youth

An aspirant for the Anambra Central Senatorial District in the 2027 general election, Prof. Jerry Ugokwe, has promised to give priority attention to education and youth development if elected to the exalted office.

Ugokwe, who is a Chieftain of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), made this promise in a press statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday by his media team.

Unveiling his legislative agenda, he described himself as a seasoned politician and diplomat with a storied career spanning activism, lawmaking, and scholarship, assuring that he would bring a wealth of experience to the table.

According to him, his journey in politics began as a student leader at the University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus, where he served as Secretary General of the Student Union and Secretary of the Student Senate, noting that he was a prominent figure in the “Ali Must Go” protests, advocating for justice and democratic ideals.

Ugokwe pointed out that his agenda includes driving economic revitalisation, supporting entrepreneurship, expanding infrastructure, and enhancing regional competitiveness for Anambra Central.

Stressing his commitment to good governance and accountability, the former member of the House of Representatives said that he would relentlessly advocate for reforms that would improve transparency and public trust in governance in Nigeria.

On education and youth development, Ugokwe said that he is passionate, recognising that Nigeria’s future depends on its young people, assuring that he would focus on quality education, skills acquisition, and innovation, which is rooted in his decades of engagement with students and institutions.

The aspirant said that his transition to politics was natural and that in 1999, he was elected into the House of Representatives, where he represented Idemili North and South Federal Constituency, stating that his tenure was marked by productivity, as he sponsored numerous bills that became Acts, shaping policy and improving lives in Nigeria.

As a diplomat, Ugokwe served as Nigeria’s Ambassador to Austria and Permanent Representative to the United Nations Offices in Vienna, addressing critical global issues, just as he also represented Nigeria at the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC).

He noted that as a scholar, he had produced works on democracy, governance, and institutional reform, showcasing his intellectual depth, stressing that his vision for the Senate is to prioritise effective legislation, strategic oversight, and authentic representation.

Part of the statement reads: “Ugokwe’s character is defined by quiet strength, thoughtful leadership, and unwavering integrity. He’s a man who listens, reflects, and acts with purpose, bringing clarity to an often noisy political environment.

“As Anambra Central prepares to choose its senator, Ugokwe stands out as a tested legislator, seasoned diplomat, and respected scholar. His life’s work speaks for itself, earning him the trust of the people.

“Ugokwe’s candidacy is not an experiment, but a continuation of proven service. He’s ready to serve, bringing a legislative mindset that’s productive and purposeful. The people of Anambra Central are not just choosing a senator, but a direction.

“They’re choosing between experience and experimentation, proven capacity and uncertain promise. Ugokwe’s record tells the story.

“With his experience, intellect, and integrity, Ugokwe is the ideal candidate for the job. He’s earned the trust of the people, and his vision for Anambra Central is clear.

“This g focus on economic growth, education, and good governance aligns with the needs of Anambra Central. He’s the right man for the job, with a track record of delivery.

“As the 2027 elections approach, Ugokwe’s candidacy is a beacon of hope for Anambra Central.

“He’s a statesman ready to serve, and his experience makes him the best choice for the people. In Prof. Jerry Sonny Ugokwe, Anambra Central has a candidate who embodies the values of integrity, competence, and service. He’s the obvious choice for the Senate seat”.
