Almond awards to change public perception of insurance

Organisers of the 2025 Almond Insurance Industry Awards say the annual event is more than just a night of celebration but a deliberate effort to change how Nigerians perceive insurance.

This was disclosed by the Chief Executive Officer of Almond Productions Limited, Ms Faith Ughwode, in a statement made available to The PUNCH on Saturday.

The PUNCH reports that the award ceremony, set for Lagos this month, is to recognise and reward changemakers and innovators in the insurance sector.

“The annual awards are geared towards changing insurance narratives in Nigeria using pop culture, as Nigeria’s current demography is made up of young people who should be the core customers of insurance companies in Nigeria,” she said.

For years, the Nigerian insurance industry has grappled with issues of mistrust from the public. The organisers acknowledged this, saying, “The Nigerian insurance industry has battled with issues of mistrust and suspicion from the Nigerian public for a long time. While we acknowledge that things are changing, social platforms such as the awards, which bring celebrities and industry players together in an atmosphere of fun, have been applauded by industry stakeholders and the insuring public.”

This year’s edition, tagged ‘#Recharged Edition’, will honour individuals and organisations in nine categories across the insurance ecosystem.

“This year, attendees will be glad they did. Top-rated comedians like Creative Toby, MC Taichi, MC Obinna and others are set to crack ribs with jokes. The musical headliner this year is artiste Slimcase, and a host of others,” Ms Ughwode added.

Apart from the performances from the artistes lined up this year, the organisers have also drawn an array of dignitaries from across various sectors of the economy as guest presenters. Notable among them are the former Governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi; President of WimAfrica, Mrs Rollence McCoy; and Chairman of Emalsson Ent. Ltd, Emmanuel Evue.

The shortlisted categories include: Insurance CEO of the Year, General Insurance Company of the Year, Life Insurance Company of the Year, Insurance Broking Company of the Year, Insurance Woman of the Year, Insurance Broker of the Year, Takaful Company of the Year, Microinsurance Company of the Year, and Most Valuable Insurance Customer of the Year.
