In a boost for youth employment, the Alliance for Youth Nigeria has empowered over 25,000 young Nigerians with jobs and entrepreneurial opportunities through skills training, marking four years of intervention.
Founded by Nestlé Nigeria, Jobberman Nigeria, Big Bottling Company, the United Nations Global Compact Network Nigeria, and U-Connect HR Limited, the Alliance is supported by key stakeholders including the Federal Ministry of Youth, Lagos State Employment Trust Fund, and Activate Success International. The partnership aims to equip 250,000 young Nigerians with employability and entrepreneurial skills by 2030.
This year, 585 youths participated in the Alliance’s flagship vocational skills training programme in Jos, acquiring practical skills in beauty care, video editing, solar panel installation, and web design. High performers across the various tracks received start-up kits and seed capital, enabling them to immediately apply their new skills.
Participants also showcased their capabilities through real-time projects, highlighting the direct benefits of the training.
Speaking on behalf of Nestlé Nigeria, Country Human Resource Manager, Shakiru Lawal, said, “As a proud member of the Alliance for Youth Nigeria, Nestlé Nigeria is committed to empowering young people with the skills, confidence, and opportunities they need to thrive. Together with other partners, we are building careers and nurturing the next generation of leaders who will shape a better future for our nation.”
Representing the United Nations Global Compact Network Nigeria, Stephanie Iwunze emphasised the global importance of youth development, noting that investment in skills is critical as technological advancements reshape the global workforce.
From the government’s perspective, Zonal Coordinator at the Federal Ministry of Youth, Deborah Pitmang, commended the initiative and urged sustained collaboration.
She said, “Youth make up a vital segment of Nigeria’s population, and investing in their skills is essential for national development. The higher the skills, the higher the gains.”
Additionally, the Country Head of Programmes at Jobberman Nigeria, Olamide Adeyeye, highlighted the socioeconomic significance of the initiative, stressing that meaningful youth development is critical for Nigeria’s transformation.
