Air Peace Flights Delayed by Baggage Screening Glitch

Operations at the domestic terminal of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, were disrupted on Monday following a technical fault affecting baggage screening equipment, causing delays to passengers, specifically those flying Air Peace.

The airline, in a statement issued by its management, confirmed that the glitch had significantly slowed baggage processing and loading procedures, thereby impacting scheduled departures.

The PUNCH learned that the development left many passengers stranded at the terminal, with some expressing frustration over extended waiting times. The airline said, “We sincerely regret to inform you of a temporary disruption affecting flight operations at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Domestic Terminal, specifically impacting baggage processing and loading.”

According to Air Peace, the disruption was traced to a technical issue with baggage screening equipment within the terminal, which has hindered normal operational flow.

The airline appealed for understanding, noting that efforts were underway to mitigate the impact on passengers. “We understand the inconvenience and uncertainty this may cause, and we truly appreciate your patience during this time,” the statement added.

In a bid to keep operations running, the airline disclosed that alternative screening arrangements had been deployed, although these measures come with added delays.

“To minimise disruption, we have proactively activated alternative screening procedures using available equipment to ensure flights continue operating safely. However, these additional steps may result in longer processing times and possible delays to some departures,” it said.

Air Peace further assured travellers that its personnel were fully engaged in addressing the situation and assisting affected passengers. The carrier also disclosed that it is working in collaboration with relevant airport authorities to resolve the issue promptly and restore normalcy.

The statement reads further, “Our ground teams are fully mobilised and on hand to support passengers, provide updates, and prioritise affected flights. “We are also working closely with airport authorities to resolve the issue as quickly as possible and restore normal operations.”

While apologising for the disruption, the airline reiterated its commitment to minimising the impact on passengers. It added, “Please be assured that we are doing everything within our control to expedite the process and reduce the impact on your travel plans. We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience and thank you for your understanding and cooperation.”
