ACM 2025 drives creative sector growth in Lagos

The fourth edition of the Africa Creative Market brought four days of industry-focused programmes to the Landmark Event Centre in Lagos, showcasing Africa’s creative excellence and strengthening cross-continental collaborations across film, fashion, music, technology, and policy.

The organiser said in a statement on Tuesday that the event, held from September 16 to 19, convened creators, investors, policymakers, and cultural leaders from across Africa and the rest of the world.

According to them, ACM 2025 covered every facet of the continent’s creative economy through simultaneous sessions across four stages, featuring conversations on film and television, fashion, digital creation, music, legal frameworks, and emerging technologies. The gathering positioned this year’s event as a central platform for collaboration, capacity building, and sector-wide development.

One of the major highlights was the Women in Film and TV Conference, which brought together leaders from Ghana, Senegal, South Africa, Kenya, Cameroon, Zambia, the United States, and the United Kingdom.

The session featured speakers including Lagos State Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Toke Benson-Awoyinka; former First Lady of Ekiti State, Erelu Bisi Adeleye-Fayemi; actress and producer Joke Silva; British Council Country Director Donna McGowan; and U.S. Consul General Rick Swart, who called for greater investment in visibility and skills for women’s stories.

The conference ended with the WIFTAfrica Gala and Awards, celebrating leadership and excellence in African storytelling. Honourees included the Gates Foundation, Women in Film LA, Felicia Naiwa Sithebe, the US Consulate General in Lagos, Fatou Jupiter, Erelu Bisi Adeleye-Fayemi, The Gurl Boss Productions, the Ladima Foundation, Joke Silva, Bimbo Oloyede, and others recognised for their contributions to the screen industry.

The Creative Continuum Africa Summit, led by actor Bucci Franklin, focused on the well-being and long-term sustainability of creative professionals.
