Access Bank to empower women, promote financial growth

Access Bank has announced plans to honour the Power of 100 awardees at its upcoming International Women’s Day Conference, as part of its efforts to promote women’s empowerment and financial growth.

In a statement made available to our correspondent by the bank on Wednesday, the conference, scheduled for March 28, 2025, will celebrate women who have demonstrated leadership, innovation, and impact across various industries in Africa. The event aligns with this year’s IWD theme, Accelerate Action, Aspiring Generations.

Speaking on the initiative, the Deputy Managing Director of Access Bank, Chizoma Okoli, emphasised the bank’s commitment to fostering gender equality.

“At Access Bank, we believe in the power of women to drive progress and transformation in society. The Power of 100 awardees represent a diverse group of trailblazers whose resilience, passion, and dedication inspire the next generation of female leaders. We are honoured to celebrate them at this year’s International Women’s Day Conference,” she said.

Similarly, the Head of Women’s Banking at Access Bank, Nene Kunle-Ogunlusi, noted that the conference would feature panel discussions, keynote addresses, and networking opportunities.

She highlighted that the awards ceremony would recognise women who have contributed significantly to business, entrepreneurship, and social development.

“The Access Bank International Women’s Day event will serve as a platform to encourage dialogue on gender inclusion, leadership, and economic empowerment for women,” Kunle-Ogunlusi stated. “Through our flagship ‘W’ Initiative, we have consistently championed financial inclusion, capacity building, and business growth for women across Africa.”

Also, the Vice President of Zambia, Mutale Nalumango, is expected to attend the event as a Special Guest of Honour, where she will deliver a goodwill message.

A statement issued by the press aide in the Office of the Vice President, Njenje Chizu, confirmed Nalumango’s participation.

“While in Nigeria, the vice president is scheduled to have a series of bilateral meetings with various stakeholders,” the statement read.

Speaking ahead of the event, Nalumango underscored the importance of actionable initiatives to support aspiring women leaders. “Empowering women requires more than discussions—it calls for tangible action. We must create opportunities for young women to lead, innovate, and drive change in their communities,” she said.

Access Bank expressed enthusiasm over Nalumango’s involvement, describing her as a symbol of resilience and leadership.

The PUNCH reported that Access Bank Plc, through its Access Women Network, has provided financial assistance to two breast cancer patients, empowering them in their ongoing battle against the disease.
