Jonathan’s Alleged PDP Ticket Undermines His Image

The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has faulted reports that a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led by the Kabiru Tanimu Turaki group has named former President Goodluck Jonathan as its presidential candidate.

Keyamo reacting to the development, described it as “a bizarre comedy taken too far,” questioning the legitimacy of those behind the move.

According to Keyamo, they were not recognised members of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) political framework.

He faulted the decision to present Jonathan as a presidential candidate by proxy, warning that the action could damage the former president’s international reputation.

“For the sake of his global image, President Goodluck Jonathan must immediately issue a strong ‘no, thank you’ statement, lest Nigerians begin to recall the ‘clueless’ campaign that got him out of power, the first sitting president to be so ousted,” Keyamo said.

He further described the process as a “charade” and accused the organisers of dragging a respected statesman into what he called a “journey to nowhere.”

Keyamo’s reaction follows reports that the Turaki-faction of the PDP had announced Jonathan as its presidential candidate ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

Jonathan has not responded to the development at the time of filing this report.
