Osun Monarchs Hails Tinubu, Oyetola Over 90.9km Osogbo-Iwo-Ibadan Road Reconstruction

Traditional rulers from the Osun West Senatorial District of Osun State have praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving the reconstruction of the 90.9-kilometre Osogbo-Iwo-Ibadan Road.

The monarchs also commended the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Dr Adegboyega Oyetola, for facilitating the approval of the road, describing the intervention as a landmark infrastructural project that will transform economic and social activities across the South-West region.

The monarchs, led by the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdurasheed Adewale Akanbi, according to a statement signed by Dr Bolaji Akinola, Special Adviser to the Minister, on Sunday, conveyed their appreciation in a formal letter addressed to the President and dated May 27, 2026.

The letter, Akinola said, was handed over on Thursday to the Minister at his country home in Iragbiji, Osun State, for onward delivery to President Tinubu.

It would be recalled that during the official coronation ceremony of the 41st Owa Obokun of Ijesaland, Oba Adesuyi Clement Haastrup, Ajimoko III, on May 23, 2025, the Minister, who represented President Tinubu at the event, pledged to facilitate the reconstruction of the road.

In the letter jointly signed by prominent traditional rulers across the Osun West Senatorial District, the monarchs commended President Tinubu for what they described as a bold demonstration of responsive and inclusive governance through the approval of the strategic road project.

“This monumental intervention stands as a bold testament to your administration’s unwavering commitment to infrastructural renewal, economic revitalisation and national integration.

“The road, which serves as a major economic corridor connecting Osun State to Oyo State and other parts of the South-West, has for many years posed untold hardship to commuters, traders, students, farmers, transporters and other road users due to its deplorable condition.

“Your timely approval of this strategic project has therefore rekindled hope in the hearts of our people and further reinforced public confidence in your Renewed Hope Agenda.

“We are particularly delighted that this laudable development will not only ease transportation and improve inter-state commerce, but will also stimulate socio-economic growth, enhance security and open up rural communities within the axis to greater opportunities,” the monarchs stated in the letter.

The royal fathers said history would “undoubtedly remember this intervention as one of the landmark achievements” of President Tinubu’s administration in the South-West region.

“The people of Osun West regard this gesture as a demonstration of responsive and inclusive governance. We equally commend Your Excellency for prioritising infrastructure that directly impacts the well-being of the people.

“This remarkable project will undoubtedly boost economic activities, facilitate easier movement of goods and services, reduce travel time and strengthen commercial and social interactions among communities within the South-West region. It is a legacy intervention that will continue to benefit present and future generations,” the monarchs added.

They also offered prayers for President Tinubu, asking God to grant him wisdom, strength, sound health and divine guidance in steering the affairs of the nation towards peace, stability and prosperity.

The monarchs who signed the letter include the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdurasheed Adewale Akanbi; the Akire of Ikire-Ile, Oba Azeez Olatunbosun Bamiji; the Olu of Ile-Ogbo, Oba Abeeblahi Adetoyese Agbajelola; the Olupo of Oluponna, Oba Rafiu Oyekanmi Mosobalaje; the Oonifin of Ikonifin, Oba Solomon Ojo Oyewo; the Olusongbe of Songbe Land, Oba Kamilu Adeniyi Ajadi; the Ologburo of Ogburo, Oba Asimiyu Sodiq Agboluaje; the Onisaraa of Feesu, Oba Alamu Moshood Oparonke; the Ola of Ajagunlaase, Oba Ismaila Gbadamosi Fabunmi; and the Oori of Olori, Oba Musibawu Akinloye Adebayo.
