President Bola Tinubu has commissioned a new high-capacity Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Daughter Booster Station in Jahi Abuja, with capacity to serve over 1,000 vehicles and 100 trucks daily, as part of projects to mark his third year anniversary in office.
Developed by Rolling Energy Limited in partnership with the Midstream and Downstream Gas Infrastructure Fund (MDGIF), the station is expected to strengthen gas supply and distribution across the Federal Capital Territory and neighbouring areas, in the Federal Government’s push to deepen gas utilisation and expand alternative, cheaper and cleaner energy infrastructure nationwide.
Speaking during the commissioning, Tinubu who was represented by the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Ekperikpe Ekpo, said that the project aligned with the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda and the Federal Government’s Decade of Gas Initiative.
He stated that the facility was one of four major gas infrastructure projects currently being commissioned across the country, noting that similar projects by Ibile Oil and Gas, Portland Energy and Femadec were also being commissioned in Lagos and Owerri respectively, reflecting increasing private sector investments in gas infrastructure.
Tinubu noted that Nigeria, with over 215 trillion cubic feet of proven gas reserves, must leverage the resource, not only for export earnings, but also for domestic economic growth and industrial development.
He said: “The commissioning of this Daughter Booster Station is a practical contribution to the Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas, which seeks to expand the adoption of CNG as a cleaner, more affordable and sustainable fuel alternative.”
Tinubu added that projects like the Jahi station would help reduce transportation fuel costs, improve energy affordability, create jobs and lower emissions.
The station has a sales capacity of 1,000 Standard Cubic Metres per hour and is supported by two CNG tube skids with a combined storage capacity of 17,000 SCM.
The facility also houses a Mass Conversion Centre equipped with trained technicians and conversion kits capable of converting up to 20 vehicles and 25 tricycles daily.
The Chief Executive Officer of Rolling Energy Limited, Mubarak Danbatta, said that the station represents confidence in Nigeria’s gas future and reflected the increasing adoption of gas-powered mobility solutions.
He revealed that the facility has already begun attracting strong patronage, serving between 350 and 400 vehicles daily shortly after operations commenced.
He added that the company has deployed over 8,000 vehicle conversion kits in collaboration with the Presidential Initiative on CNG and Electric Vehicles as part of efforts to accelerate CNG adoption across the country.
Danbatta explained that the Jahi project formed part of a wider gas infrastructure expansion programme involving LCNG mother stations, daughter stations and RLNG facilities across Abuja, Kaduna, Kano and Borno states.
