Former lawmaker, Kabiru Marafa has emerged as the governorship candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Zamfara State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Marafa secured the party’s ticket through a consensus arrangement reached during a stakeholders’ meeting held in Gusau, the Zamfara State capital.
The chairman of the party’s electoral committee, Aminu Jelani, announced the former senator as the party’s governorship candidate following the conclusion of the meeting.

Speaking after his emergence, Marafa expressed appreciation to party members and supporters for the confidence reposed in him, pledging to provide purposeful and responsible leadership if elected governor.
He said corruption and poor management of public resources had hindered the development of Zamfara State, promising to prioritise transparency, accountability and prudent use of government funds.
According to him, his administration would focus on improving governance, raising the living standard of residents and creating equal opportunities for citizens across the state.
Marafa recently defected to the NDC after leaving the African Democratic Congress, a move earlier confirmed by party leader Seriake Dickson.
The party had stated that the former senator agreed to help strengthen the NDC structure and coordinate its political activities in Zamfara State ahead of the 2027 elections.
