Presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Prince Adewole Adebayo, has pledged to tackle poverty, unemployment, insecurity and poor governance if elected President in the 2027 general election.
The SDP flag bearer said millions of Nigerians are battling rising living costs, food insecurity and shrinking economic opportunities, stressing that his administration would focus on restoring economic stability and improving citizens’ welfare.
According to him, years of poor leadership and policy failures have worsened the country’s socio-economic challenges, making urgent reforms inevitable.
He promised to run a people-centred government that would prioritise job creation, poverty reduction and strategic investments in critical infrastructure, including roads, schools, healthcare facilities and electricity.
Adebayo also pledged to revive moribund industries, refineries, manufacturing firms and agro-processing facilities as part of efforts to stimulate economic growth and create employment opportunities for Nigerians.
On insecurity, the SDP candidate said Nigerians deserve a government capable of protecting lives and property, promising to strengthen the armed forces and other security agencies to effectively combat terrorism, banditry and violent crimes across the country.
He maintained that meaningful national development could only be achieved through effective, transparent and accountable governance at the federal, state and local government levels.
Adebayo further promised to run an issue-based campaign centred on policies and solutions rather than ethnic, religious or sectional considerations.
He urged Nigerians to assess candidates based on competence, integrity and commitment to public service rather than personal relationships, ethnicity or financial inducements.
The SDP presidential candidate also warned against what he described as growing threats to democratic governance, insisting that democracy can only thrive where opposition parties and dissenting voices are allowed to operate freely.
He expressed concern over alleged pressure on democratic institutions, stressing the need to safeguard the country’s electoral and governance systems.
Adebayo commended Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, for providing an enabling environment for the party’s convention despite what he described as political pressure.
He accused the current administration of worsening economic hardship through increased taxation and failing to translate gains from fuel subsidy removal into tangible benefits for citizens.
According to him, politics directly affects the quality of education, healthcare, security, infrastructure and economic opportunities available to Nigerians, making active citizen participation essential for national development.
Adebayo said his presidential ambition was driven by a desire to serve the country and contribute to national progress, expressing confidence that the 2027 general election presents an opportunity to restore hope, strengthen democracy and build a more prosperous Nigeria.
