Former Senator representing Kaduna Central and 2027 APC Senatorial candidate, Shehu Sani, has endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term and urged politicians to respect Nigeria’s power rotation arrangement to safeguard national unity.
Sani made the call on Wednesday in his Eid al-Kabir message, warning that desperate political ambitions should not be allowed to undermine national harmony ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He said the principle of rotational leadership is vital to peaceful coexistence and democratic balance in a diverse country like Nigeria.
According to him, President Tinubu should be allowed to complete a second term in line with the spirit of fairness and political understanding that has shaped Nigeria’s democratic transition.
“The North-West and the northern region generally enjoyed the support of the South-West during the eight-year administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari and should reciprocate the gesture by supporting Tinubu’s re-election bid,” Sani said.
He advised northern presidential aspirants across political parties to place national interest above personal ambition, stressing that respecting rotational arrangements would strengthen trust among regions and reduce political tension.
Sani also cautioned politicians against exploiting religion, ethnicity, and sectional sentiments for political gain. He said Nigeria’s diversity should be treated as a source of strength rather than a basis for conflict.
“I will use this opportunity to call on all those involved in partisan politics to practice politics with maturity, responsibility, patriotism and duty to the country,” he said, warning that no political ambition can thrive in an atmosphere of instability, hatred, and violence.
The former lawmaker urged politicians and supporters to accept electoral outcomes in good faith and avoid threats or incitement. He noted that democracy naturally produces winners and losers, and that no individual ambition should be placed above the peace and survival of the country.
On security, Sani expressed optimism over improvements in parts of Kaduna State and the North-West, noting that routes previously affected by banditry, including the Kaduna-Birnin Gwari road, have become more accessible following security operations.
He said challenges persist in some communities but ongoing efforts are yielding results.
Congratulating Muslims on Eid-el-Kabir, Sani urged Nigerians to reflect on the lessons of sacrifice, tolerance, and peaceful coexistence.
He also prayed for Nigerian pilgrims participating in the 2026 Hajj and called on citizens and political leaders to ensure that political contests ahead of 2027 are conducted peacefully and responsibly.
