VDM Should Be Prosecuted For Doctored Tinubu’s Voice Note

President Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Media and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, has demanded legal action against social media influencer Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VDM, for disseminating an audio clip that he said was a fake recording purporting to be from President Bola Tinubu.

Onanuga accused VDM of exploiting social media by spreading “false information capable of misleading the public and damaging the image of the President” in a post on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, using his verified X handle @aonanuga1956.

“This VDM needs to face the weight of the law for being the conveyor and disseminator of a fake audio of President Tinubu,” Onanuga said. “This is a clear case of an egregious abuse of the social media platform.”

The main source of contention is a video that VDM uploaded, in which he played an audio clip that he claimed showed Mr. Tinubu discussing the political climate, insecurity, and 2027 election preparations of the nation.

“After this audio that I am about to play, I would ask if they cooked Nigerians who will support Tinubu in 2027, or you guys are okay,” VDM said as he introduced the video.

A voice purported to be the president reportedly said in the recording, which went viral online, that those attempting to remove him from office “have been trying to take me out of the position, but it’s not possible,” and that he would not take action to stop insecurity in the South-East because doing so would hurt his party’s chances of winning elections.

The voice was purportedly heard in the recording stating that loans were being used to “fund them” and that he planned to “borrow more and more money from the World Bank.”

Onanuga cautioned that the dissemination of unconfirmed content “poses serious dangers to public trust, national security, and democratic stability” and rejected the tape as altered. According to him, people who disseminate such content ought to face legal repercussions.
