No fewer than 32 tertiary institutions in Bauchi State have benefited from the free internet initiative introduced by the Bala Wunti Support Organisation (BWSO) to enhance digital learning and academic research.
The organisation disclosed that over 61 internet devices had so far been installed across universities, colleges and professional institutions within the state.
Chief Communication Officer of BWSO, Abubakar Al-Sadique, said the initiative was already transforming academic activities by providing students with easier access to online libraries, research databases, virtual classrooms and international learning platforms.
He stated that many students who previously struggled with expensive and unstable internet services could now conduct research and academic activities with relative ease.
According to him, the intervention is helping students connect with global knowledge systems while preparing them for opportunities in an increasingly technology-driven economy.
Al-Sadique added that the initiative was also exposing young people to innovation, entrepreneurship and professional development opportunities through access to digital tools and online resources.
He explained that beyond education, the programme was empowering youths and women in rural and semi-urban communities to engage in online businesses, skills acquisition and digital communication.
The organisation maintained that the free WiFi programme was conceived as a strategic effort to democratise access to knowledge and prepare Bauchi youths for future economic realities.
BWSO expressed confidence that continued expansion of the initiative would significantly improve educational outcomes and strengthen technological awareness across the state.
