The Allied People’s Movement (APM) in Bauchi State has declared that the emergence of former Governor Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar, SAN, as the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2027 election has boosted the party’s confidence of victory.
Speaking with journalists on Sunday, the Bauchi State Publicity Secretary of the APM, Danlami A. Mohammed, said residents of the state were unwilling to return to previous administrations after witnessing what he described as significant development under Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed.
According to him, the political atmosphere in the state now favours continuity rather than a return to former leadership.
“People of Bauchi State have seen rigorous transformation in the last seven years of Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed’s leadership. No one wants to go back to the woods,” he said.
“The coming on board of M.A is a walkover to victory for the APM,” he added.
Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar, who governed Bauchi State between 2015 and 2019, recently emerged as the APC governorship candidate, a development that has generated political discussions within the state.
The APM spokesman dismissed fears that the APC could enjoy undue advantage through federal backing, expressing confidence in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to democratic principles.
“Mr President believes in the same democracy that we do. It is our collective mandate to ensure the system is protected and to restore hope to Nigerians by allowing a level playing field for all to struggle for victory,” he stated.
He further called on the Federal Government to allow the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to discharge its responsibilities independently to guarantee credible elections.
Mohammed also insisted that the APM remained politically formidable despite the APC’s influence, warning opponents against underrating the party.
Quoting Governor Bala Mohammed, he said: “We don’t underrate anybody, and if you underrate us, that is when we spring surprises. Underrate us at your own peril.”
On possible political alliances ahead of the election, he maintained that the APM was not involved in any formal merger arrangement, though its influence cuts across party lines.
“We are not in a merger, and we are in a merger. What I mean is APM is APM. We don’t have PDAPC as some politicians do. It is either you stay in white or in black,” he said.
He added that the party had become widely accepted across Bauchi State and predicted that some APC aspirants might eventually support the APM.
The 2027 governorship contest in Bauchi is expected to be one of the most keenly contested elections in the North-East, with the APC seeking to regain control of the state while the APM positions itself as the platform for continuity.
