…tasks Muslims on Unity, Sacrifice to Humanity
A prominent Islamic cleric in Ekiti State, Sheikh Zubair Yahyi Akorede, has called on Muslim faithful to uphold the virtues of peace, sacrifice, unity and total obedience to Almighty Allah as they prepare for the forthcoming Eid-ul-Adha celebration.
The cleric gave the charge while hosting members of the Muslim Media Practitioners of Nigeria (MMPN) in Ekiti State ahead of the sacred festival.
Sheikh Akorede, who is also the Balogun Oniwaasi of Ekiti State, urged adherents of Islam to emulate the exemplary virtues of Prophet Ibrahim, particularly his unwavering faith, sacrifice and submission to the will of Allah, describing Eid-ul-Adha as a period for sober reflection, compassion and renewed commitment to humanity.
He also appealed to residents of the state and Nigerians at large to remain vigilant and security-conscious in view of the rising cases of banditry, terrorism, kidnapping and other criminal activities confronting the nation.
The respected Islamic scholar charged Yoruba leaders, traditional rulers and other critical stakeholders to rise up and take decisive steps towards addressing the growing insecurity in the country, stressing that Nigeria needs collective efforts and sincere prayers to overcome its present challenges.
According to him, “fervent prayers remain one of the strongest tools for achieving lasting peace, unity and stable security in the country,” urging citizens “to continually seek divine intervention for the progress and safety of Nigeria.”
Sheikh Akorede also advised commercial and private drivers conveying travellers during the festive period to exercise maximum caution, professionalism and patience on the roads to avoid unnecessary loss of lives.
He specifically warned against night travelling, noting that “many security threats and fatal road accidents often occur during late hours.”
The Islamic cleric further commended the Governor of Ekiti State, Biodun Oyebanji, for his support for the Muslim community in the state, urging him “to sustain the good relationship and inclusive governance as he continues to pilot the affairs of the state”.
He noted that he had always prayed for the success of the governor’s administration and assured that he would continue to support the government with prayers for peace and development in Ekiti State.
Sheikh Akorede equally offered prayers for the President-General of the League of Imams and Alfas in the South-West, Edo and Delta States, Sheikh Jamiu Bello Kewulere, asking Almighty Allah to continue to strengthen and protect him in his service to Islam and humanity.
He also prayed for the entire Muslim Ummah, wishing them a peaceful, joyous and spiritually rewarding Eid-ul-Adha celebration.
