Don Jazzy Reveals Hardest Career Decisions, Names Di’ja

Mavin Records boss, Michael Collins Ajereh, popularly known as Don Jazzy, has revealed that letting former signee Di’ja leave the label was one of the toughest decisions of his career.

Di’ja signed with Mavin Records on February 14, 2014, and released singles and extended Play (EP) tracks under the label between 2014 and 2017.

But in 2023, the singer disclosed that she did not formally leave the record label but that “life happened.”

Breaking his long silence on the development, Don Jazzy recalled that the situation was tense and emotionally difficult for both parties.

Speaking in a recent episode of the Crea8torium podcast, Jazzy said the decision was challenging for him to make because he viewed every artist on the label as family.

Don Jazzy noted that he no longer handled exits personally, adding that label executives Tega and Rima now managed such matters if an artist needed to leave.

He said, “One of the most difficult decisions of my career was when I had to let Di’ja go. That was difficult, and I don’t think I will let any artist go again by myself. Tega and Rima handle that now if they need somebody to leave the label.

“Everybody on my record label is like my child. So, that was hard for both of us. And she [Di’ja] knew that it was hard for me.

“She even questioned the guys in the room why they had to involve me in that. All of us started crying. It was hard.”
