Shine Rosman Laments Increasing Sexual Harassment In Nigeria

Nollywood actress Shine Rosman has raised the alarm over growing sexual harassment across the country.

Speaking in an interview with Tolu Afilaka, Rosman noted that harassment has become a common phenomenal and largely ignored in some parts of Nigeria, citing numerous incidents in crowded public areas.

According to her, many instances of harassment, especially in marketplaces, went unreported and garnered little public attention, according to Rosman.

She questioned whether self-defence was becoming the sole choice and voiced concern that women were left unprotected due to the authorities’ lack of response.

She said, ”Do you know how bad sexual harassment is in Lagos. Like go to Yaba, as a girl and see how you will be touched inappropriately.

“Everybody hearing this knows that it is true. But till today, nothing is being done about it. You’re walking in Yaba and people are touching you inappropriately and nothing will happen.

“If the government is not going to do anything, is not not ok for us to defend ourselves?”, she said.

She added that in 2026, sexual harassment remained treated as a minor issue despite its implications for women’s safety.

“In 2026, in a country like Nigeria, sexual harassment us still one of the most passive things.

“If a man can s3xually harass you, casually, during the day, what do you think he can do behind closed doors when no one is looking?,” she questioned.
