APC Clears Fubara For Primaries

…No Comments, Rivers gov tells journalists after screening
…He was asked to take a bow and go -Source

Governor of Rivers State, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, on Sunday appeared before the screening panel of the All Progressives Congress (APC) sitting at the Plateau State Governor’s Lodge, Asokoro, Abuja.

Governor Fubara, who arrived at the venue of the exercise at about 3:15 p.m., was briskly attended to by the members of the committee.

A source close to the committee said it was a “successful outing” as the governor had “no issues” on his way. According to our source, the screening did not take long as all the necessary documents had been front-loaded ahead of the exercise.

“Don’t forget that Fubara is a sitting governor who is in good standing with the party due to his performance in office. In fact, he was simply told to bow and go,” the source said.

Shortly after the screening, Fubara headed straight to his unmarked vehicle parked at the entrance of the venue.

When approached by journalists to know how the exercise went, Fubara simply smiled, waved at them and said: “No comments.”

The National Secretary of the APC and Secretary of the Screening Committee, Ajibola Basiru, who spoke to journalists at the end of the exercise, said it was mandatory for all incumbent governors seeking re-election to submit themselves to the panel for screening.

He said that the committee will issue a report on the outcome of the exercise at a later date.

“Everybody must appear before the screening committee; of course, it is necessary as part of the process.

“When the committee has completed seeing everybody it is supposed to see, we will sit down and come up with reports. There is no report yet,” Basiru said.

In the last few days, there had been some anxiety and suspense over Fubara’s fate, particularly when he was absent from the exercise on Saturday.

But the National Chairman of the APC, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, had explained that Fubara was just one among three governors who could not show up that day due to pressing state matters.

He assured that they would be given an opportunity to be screened at a time convenient to them.
