Sunderland A.F.C. and Manchester United played out a tense 0-0 draw at the Stadium of Light on Saturday as both sides settled for a point in an evenly contested Premier League encounter.
The result stretched United’s unbeaten league run to four matches, while Sunderland recorded consecutive draws as they continued to frustrate opponents with another disciplined display on home soil.
The hosts produced the stronger attacking moments during the opening half and nearly struck early through Chemsdine Talbi, whose curling effort drifted narrowly wide of the post after a lively run down the flank.
Sunderland continued to apply pressure and soon carved out another opening when Enzo Le Fée threaded a precise pass into Noah Sadiki, forcing goalkeeper Senne Lammens into a smart low save.

United struggled to establish rhythm early on but eventually threatened from a set piece. Bruno Fernandes delivered a low free-kick to former Sunderland loanee Amad Diallo, though the winger’s effort sailed off target.
The Black Cats enjoyed long spells of possession and also appealed for a penalty after Le Fée’s strike appeared to hit Amad’s arm inside the area, but VAR ruled against the home side.
Lammens was called into action again midway through the half, punching clear after Lutsharel Geertruida awkwardly redirected a dangerous delivery from Granit Xhaka.
United’s best chance before the interval fell to Joshua Zirkzee, who glanced a header just over the crossbar from Matheus Cunha’s inviting cross.
Sunderland resumed the second half with renewed intent and almost broke the deadlock when Brian Brobbey forced another impressive stop from Lammens after being slipped through by Le Fée.
Moments later, the hosts came agonisingly close as Brobbey flicked the ball into the path of Geertruida, whose effort struck the post with the United defence scrambling to recover.
Despite Sunderland’s pressure, clear-cut opportunities remained scarce in a game lacking attacking sharpness. Le Fée tried his luck from distance late on but fired over, while United mounted a late surge in search of a winner.
Fernandes saw a low strike deflected behind before Cunha’s powerful effort was well saved by Sunderland goalkeeper Robin Roefs. In stoppage time, Fernandes picked out Bryan Mbeumo on the edge of the area, but the winger’s shot was blocked in the final meaningful action of the contest.
With two league matches remaining, United have already secured Champions League qualification and continue to build momentum heading into the end of the season.
Sunderland, meanwhile, will take encouragement from another resilient performance against elite opposition.
