Former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has called for national unity and political renewal, backing the zoning of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential ticket to the South ahead of the 2027 elections.
Speaking at the NDC National Convention held in Saturday in Abuja, Kwankwaso described Nigeria as being at a critical crossroads.
He referenced worsening insecurity, economic hardship, and declining living standards as major concerns while giving his speech during the convention.

Also, he blamed poor leadership for the country’s inability to harness global opportunities, noting that millions of Nigerians are grappling with displacement, poverty, and failing infrastructure.
Kwankwaso drew historical parallels with past political alliances, referencing collaborations involving Aminu Kano and Nnamdi Azikiwe, as well as the Second Republic partnership between Shehu Shagari and Alex Ekwueme, as examples of unity driving national progress.
He said zoning the presidency to the South aligns with principles of fairness and federal character, describing it as an opportunity for national healing and stability.
Kwankwaso also urged Nigerians to actively participate in the democratic process by registering with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and supporting the NDC, emphasizing that credible leadership must be built on inclusivity, competence, and accountability.
