…Pushes Inclusive Reforms
Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has announced plans to create village head structures across 20 emirates in Bauchi State as part of efforts to strengthen grassroots administration and address population growth.
Speaking during a stakeholders engagement on Tuesday in Bauchi, the governor disclosed that district heads have already been established and are currently in place, noting that the next phase of the exercise will focus on the creation and organisation of village heads within the affected emirates.
According to him, the initiative is driven by the increasing population and expansion of communities across the state, which necessitate a more structured and responsive traditional governance system.
He further directed the Local Government Service Commission to collaborate with relevant stakeholders in all the 20 Local Government Areas (LGAs) to ensure a transparent and inclusive selection process.
“As part of the plan, each LGA is expected to nominate at least ten respected individuals who will be considered for the roles”
The governor emphasised that the move is aimed at enhancing local administration, improving community representation, and ensuring effective service delivery at the grassroots level.
He added that traditional institutions remain critical partners in governance, particularly in maintaining peace, resolving conflicts, and fostering development within communities.
The exercise is expected to commence after due consultations with community leaders and other key stakeholders across the state.
