The Lagos State Chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has dismissed the recent outburst of Mr Adedeji Doherty against the former Deputy National Chairman of the party, Chief Bode George.
The party, in a statement issued by its Publicity Secretary, Dr Christopher Odianarewo, warned Doherty to steer clear of the party’s internal business.
The party stated that Doherty’s persistent attempts to insert himself into party matters only reinforce what is already publicly known: that he is an attention-seeking interloper with no legitimate standing to dictate, threaten, or pronounce disciplinary measures within the PDP.
It said: “His reckless statement threatening the expulsion of a revered statesman and founding pillar of the party, Chief Bode George, is not only laughable but exposes a shocking level of political illiteracy and moral deficit.
“Chief Bode George’s stature in the PDP is firmly rooted in history, sacrifice, and institutional loyalty, values clearly alien to Mr Doherty and his co-travellers.
“Let it be stated categorically: No individual who is not a bona fide and constitutionally recognised member of the PDP has the authority to expel anyone from the party.
“Mr Doherty’s claim to such powers is therefore null, void, and a gross misrepresentation of party processes.
“More troubling is the fact that Mr Doherty’s political associations and visible alignment with elements of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), including his proximity to the Lagos State power structure, raise serious questions about his motives.
“His actions bear all the hallmarks of a political infiltrator whose primary objective is to destabilise the PDP from within.
“His attempt to drag the person of His Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde, into his tirade further underscores his confusion.
“Governor Makinde remains a performing, elected leader with verifiable democratic legitimacy and measurable governance credentials.
“To place him in the same conversational space as Mr Doherty, a serial confusionist known for opportunistic rhetoric is both inappropriate and intellectually dishonest.
“Importantly, Mr Doherty’s outburst comes in the wake of the landmark judgment of the Supreme Court of Nigeria delivered on April 30, 2026, which decisively settled the leadership dispute within the PDP.
“The apex court, in its wisdom, upheld the suspension of Senator Samuel Anyanwu and others, while firmly reiterating that the judiciary lacks jurisdiction in the internal affairs of political parties.
“By invoking the doctrine of nullity, the Court rendered illegal and void: the purported March 29–30, 2026 convention; the so-called appointment of Abdulrahman Mohammed as Acting National Chairman; and all decisions, directives, and representations made under that illegitimate arrangement.
“This judgment has effectively restored constitutional order within the PDP and reaffirmed the supremacy of the party’s legitimate leadership structures.
“It is therefore both ironic and disgraceful that Mr Doherty, whose political relevance is questionable, would seek to lecture the PDP on discipline and unity, while openly disregarding a clear and binding pronouncement of the Supreme Court.
“The PDP remains a law-abiding institution guided by its constitution, internal democratic mechanisms, and respect for due process.
“We will not be distracted by external noise, political impostors, or agents of confusion masquerading as stakeholders.
“We urge all loyal party members to remain calm, focused, and united as we consolidate on the gains of this judicial victory and reposition the party for future electoral success.
“Mr Doherty is advised, in his own interest, to desist from further public misadventures that only serve to diminish his already fragile credibility.”
