Lawyers Ask Parties To Respect Apex Court’s Verdict

Some senior lawyers have asked parties involved in the leadership crises rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to respect the verdict of the Supreme Court on the leadership crisis afflicting both parties.

The lawyers, Chief Mike Ahamba (SAN), Adekunle Ojo (SAN) and Kabir Akingbolu, in separate phone interviews with New Telegraph said parties are duty bound to obey the apex court’s verdict. Speaking on the issue, Chief Ahamba noted that the judgement, coming from the apex court of the land, must be obeyed.

He said: “That’s the decision of the Supreme Court and it’s final. Now, there’s a judgement from the Supreme Court and it has to be obeyed”. In his comments, a former VicePresident of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Adekunle Ojo (SAN), also asked parties to comply with the apex court’s verdict. “If the appeal in the PDP tussle has been dismissed, it means the Ibadan Convention is null and void.

There’s no way the judgement can favour those that flouted the court’s order stopping the convention. “On the second case involving ADC, I would rather say that it’s a fair decision. It has confirmed the decision of the Appeal Court asking parties to go back to the Federal High Court to settle the case. This is not a victory for the David Mark faction. But, above all, parties must abide by the verdict of the Supreme Court,” Ojo said.

Speaking in the same vein, a rights activist, Kabir Akingbolu, said the judgement must be respected because it has laid the internal wrangling in the PDP to rest.

Akingbolu said: “The party can now sit down and refocus its attention and direct its objectives towards becoming more relevant among political parties in the country. I would advise that the party should go back to the drawing board and reorder its priorities.
