Matheus Cunha was absent for Manchester United after sustaining a minor groin injury in the win over Chelsea last weekend.

Meanwhile, Brentford stuck with the same starting XI for a third consecutive match as they aimed to snap a run of five straight draws.

The visitors looked unsettled early on, and United capitalised within the opening 15 minutes, with Casemiro opening the scoring.

Brentford responded by creating several clear chances to equalise and even take the lead, but poor finishing let them down.

They were made to pay just before half-time when United struck on the counter, as Bruno Fernandes picked out Benjamin Šeško, who calmly finished to double the advantage.

United appeared in control after the break, managing the tempo of the game, but a late long-range effort from Mathias Jensen in the 86th minute set up a tense finale.

Despite late pressure from Brentford in stoppage time, the Red Devils held firm to secure all three points and remain third on the table.
