Lagos Govt Debunks Report Of Sanwo-Olu Resignation On Health

The Lagos State Government has described the reports that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has been directed to resign on health grounds as entirely false and misleading.

In a press statement issued on Monday by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile, the State Government dismissed the publication by Sahara Reporters, which alleged that the governor had been asked to step down in favour of his deputy.

Akosile maintained that Sanwo-Olu remains in good health, mentally fit, and fully engaged in his responsibilities as the chief executive of Lagos State.

The statement also clarified that, Governor Sanwo-Olu received the Deputy Governor, Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, who paid a courtesy visit to inform him of his intention to contest for the governorship election in 2027.

According to the statement, the meeting was cordial and in line with established protocol, dismissing any insinuation of internal crisis or succession pressure.

While criticising Sahara Reporters for what it described as a pattern of disinformation, the Lagos government said it was compelled to respond in order to prevent the public from being misled.

It urged residents and the general public to disregard the report, labelling it as fake news aimed at causing unnecessary confusion.

The statement reaffirmed that Governor Sanwo-Olu continues to carry out his duties without any impediment.
