Hon. Peter Azubuike, who emerged as the new Chairman of the Labour Party (LP) in Abia State, following the State congress in Umuahia on Saturday, has set a task to win every part of the State in 2027.
Speaking to journalists after the congress, Azubuike said the mission would drive his focus, vowing not to yield any part of the State to the opposition.
He said his emergence through consensus was an acceptable democratic method of conducting party congresses and assured that the party would intensify its membership drive and mobilise support to retain power in the State in 2027.
“We’ll make sure we go down to every nook and cranny to ensure that the party captures every aspect of the State,” Hon. Azubuike stated.
Addressing the congress participants at the Ikot Ekpene Road secretariat of the Labour Party, Governor Alex Otti, described the congress as peaceful and a signal of a new era of unity in the party.
He pledged support for the new leadership and explained that the ultra-modern party secretariat was made ready for the smooth takeover of the new executive to end all forms of distractions that had earlier plagued the party.
According to the governor, “This is the beginning of a new era. Gone are the days when somebody will be pulling from one direction, and another will be pulling from another direction; now we will all pull together.
“One thing you can take for granted is that, as we have always done, we will support our Party and the New Leadership of the Party.
“Already, you have a Secretariat that has just been described as befitting, and if there is anything that you need, please feel free to let us know. We want a smooth take-off of the new administration.”
The governor also praised the Congress Organising Committee for the job well done, the immediate past Chairman, Mr Emmanuel Oti, for holding the Party firm during the period of National Leadership crisis and the National and State Leadership of the Party, members of the electoral committee and stakeholders for contributing to the success of the exercise.
