The Akure community and its monarch, Oba Aladetoyinbo Ogunlade Aladelusi, have applauded the accreditation of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) School of Health Sciences by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN).
The Akure Central Planning Committee, in its establishment of Futa Teaching Hospital, stated that the accreditation would enable the College of Medicine to be recognised and listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools.
New Telegraph had earlier reported that the MDCN confirmed that the institution’s College of Medicine has earned full recognition following the Council’s visit. The team, led by Deputy Registrar Dr Nnameka Nwakanma, gave the seal of approval during its accreditation visit to the institution.
However, in a statement by the Chairman, Media/Publicity Committee, Community Central Planning, Mr Tope Fayehun said that with the approval, the committee headed by Dr Femi Oyinsan has completed its assignment. Also, he said the landmark approval marked a pivotal step in elevating healthcare education and service delivery in the state and beyond.
The Committee extended its appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his exceptional leadership and for graciously granting the heartfelt request of the Akure people.
The statement read: “The Committee profoundly thanks the Akure indigenes and their friends, whom God has used as vessels for this victory, for their invaluable contributions.
“Our great sage, Pa R.F. Fasoranti, who pulled the final trigger that delivered the Futa Teaching Hospital. Undoubtedly a national figure but first and foremost an Akure indigene of incomparable standing and a legend of our time.
“The Asiwaju of Akure, Hon. Ifedayo Abegunde, who single-handedly funded well over 50 per cent of the cost of the huge medical laboratory equipment for the FUTA College of Health Sciences. Senator Niyi Adegbonmire, for his generous donation toward actualising this dream.
“Barrister Olumuyiwa Adu, who provided a brand-new three-storey building to accommodate the first set of about 50 clinical students of the College of Medical Sciences, located just next door to the FUTA Teaching Hospital.
“Other Akure indigenes who contributed hugely to this achievement are Mr Olumide Origunloye, Chief Leke Adedipe, Prince Akinwunmi Falodun, Mr Taiye James, Oyemekun International Club (USA), Akure and Friends (Chicago, USA), and former Deputy Governor, Omolade Oluwateru.”
Fayehun said Akure Land must pay special appreciation to the dynamic, resourceful, and intelligent Chairman of the CCPC, Oyinsan, for his untiring efforts in achieving this milestone, who not only coordinated the activities that birthed this dream for Akure but also donated a substantial sum toward its realisation.
While commending Oba Aladelusi for the confidence reposed in the Committee members, Fayehun said
The accreditation would not only strengthen FUTA and the Teaching Hospital’s role as a beacon of medical excellence but also reaffirm Akure’s commitment to advancing national healthcare.
