Customer Urges Wider Insurance Uptake in Nigeria

A customer of Mutual Benefits Assurance Plc, Abdelhamid Abdelrahman of RAP Building Solutions Ltd, has called on Nigerians to reconsider their stance on insurance, citing his seamless claims experience as evidence of the industry’s reliability.

Speaking in Lagos on Wednesday, Abdelrahman noted that despite widespread scepticism in the country, partnering with a dependable provider ensures that the financial safety net promised by insurance is effectively delivered when needed.

Sharing his personal journey with the insurer, Abdelrahman stated, “Many people believe insurance does not work in Nigeria, but it does.

When the time comes to make a claim, and it is handled smoothly, then you know insurance truly works. I have no regrets partnering with Mutual Benefits; their response to feedback is exceptionally fast.”

The businessman revealed that he initially chose the firm due to its visible presence and longstanding reputation in his business environment, though he admitted to having early reservations regarding the efficiency of an older institution. Addressing those initial doubts, he added, “I had my doubts at some point, thinking that because they are one of the oldest insurance companies, perhaps their service might not be as efficient.

But when I had a vehicle claim in 2023, it was processed in no time. Subsequent claims for other vehicles in my fleet were handled just as efficiently.”

Industry analysts have highlighted that prompt claims settlement remains the primary driver of trust in the Nigerian insurance sector. Experts suggest that as economic uncertainties rise, the ability of insurers to provide swift financial relief during difficult times will determine market loyalty.

Reflecting on the importance of customer engagement and accessibility, Abdelrahman noted, “Since my first claim, I have felt that whenever I have a vehicle, I will always subscribe to their packages. They may be one of the oldest, but they are still one of the most responsive insurance companies in Nigeria. Their proximity and direct engagement make subscribing to their services very easy.”

Mutual Benefits Assurance Plc has consistently positioned itself as a leader in claims settlement, frequently reporting multi-billion-naira payouts to policyholders across its life and general insurance categories. The firm reiterated that its commitment to transparency and speed remains a core part of its customer promise, stating, ‘By ensuring that valid claims are settled without delay, we are actively working to improve public perception of insurance. Our goal is to provide a dependable financial safety net that allows our clients to navigate risks with confidence.”
