The 2023 Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has warned that Nigeria is drifting off course, urging citizens and leaders to unite and take urgent steps to redirect the nation toward progress.
Obi made the remarks on Thursday during a special visit to Bauchi, where he met with the State Governor, Bala Mohammed, and other stakeholders.
According to him, the country’s current trajectory is not encouraging and requires immediate collective action to prevent further decline.
“We must unite as a people to build a better future. The direction we are going is not encouraging, and it requires all stakeholders to come together and chart a new course,” Obi said.
The former Anambra State governor stressed that Nigeria’s future depends on the readiness of both leaders and citizens to collaborate in building strong institutions, promoting inclusive policies and ensuring sustainable development.
He also emphasised the need for stronger partnerships across regions and sectors, noting that meaningful national development cannot be achieved in isolation.
Obi further highlighted the importance of investing in critical infrastructure, including bridges and other projects capable of boosting economic growth and strengthening national integration.
In his remarks, Governor Mohammed aligned with Obi’s position, underscoring the importance of unity and coordinated efforts in addressing the country’s challenges.
Both leaders expressed optimism that Nigeria can overcome its present difficulties if stakeholders remain committed to dialogue, cooperation and reforms.
The meeting ended with a renewed call for sustained engagement among leaders and citizens to advance the nation’s development agenda.
Our correspondent reports that Obi was accompanied by a powerful delegation from the South East, among other dignitaries.
