Former Ogun governorship aspirant, Iyabo Obasanjo has called for a more inclusive consensus process following the emergence of Senator Olamilekan Adeola as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in the upcoming 2027 general elections.
While reaffirming her commitment to the party, Obasanjo in a statement on Thursday while addressing the outcome of the APC caucus meeting held on April 13, 2026, said she immediately accepted the decision and suspended her gubernatorial ambition in line with her earlier commitment to party unity.
However, she noted that the process leading to the consensus outcome highlighted areas that require improvement to ensure fairness and inclusiveness within the party.

According to her, some of her supporters were denied entry into the meeting venue, while others were allegedly assaulted.
She also pointed out that not all aspirants were acknowledged during the proceedings, despite their contributions and grassroots engagement across the state.
“True unity is not achieved by consensus alone, but through recognition, respect and collective engagement,” she said.
Obasanjo, however, reiterated her support for Senator Adeola’s candidacy and pledged to work for the success of the APC in the 2027 elections.
She also reaffirmed her backing for President Bola Tinubu, noting that his administration continues to deliver development projects in Ogun State.
The former aspirant urged party leaders to adopt a more inclusive approach moving forward, emphasizing the need to carry all stakeholders along as preparations intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.
