The Security and Public Affairs Analysts Forum has petitioned President Bola Tinubu over what it described as the “Unlawful obstruction” of a presidential appointee, retired Air Vice Marshal Abubakar Idris Adamu, from assuming office at the Military Pensions Board.
In a letter addressed to the President in Abuja, the group alleged that despite Adamu’s appointment in December 2025, he had been denied access to his office by authorities at the board, a situation it said undermined the President’s constitutional powers.
The letter, signed by the Forum’s Head of Investigation, Olasunkanmi Olayinka and made available to newsmen on Wednesday in Abuja, stated that the retired Air Vice Marshal was duly appointed through a formal letter issued by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, with additional endorsements from the Ministry of Defence and the Office of the National Security Adviser.
Describing the development as an affront to presidential authority, the group said, “The refusal to allow AVM Abubakar Idris Adamu (retd.) to assume office, despite a valid appointment, is not only unlawful but a direct challenge to the authority of the President and Commander-in-Chief.
“We respectfully urge Your Excellency to wade into this matter and ensure the immediate resumption of your appointee, in line with due process and without fear or favour.”
The forum further noted that other individuals appointed alongside Adamu had already assumed duty, questioning the basis for what it termed selective compliance.
“We find it troubling that while others appointed at the same time have resumed their roles, AVM Adamu continues to be denied access without any lawful justification,” the group said.
While commending Tinubu’s administration for ongoing reforms, the group warned against allowing institutional resistance to persist.
“This kind of development, if unchecked, has the potential to erode confidence in governance and weaken institutional discipline,” it added.
