The Minister of State for Works, Barrister Bello Mohammed Goronyo, has commended President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his unwavering commitment to advancing the Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritises security and the promotion of the rule of law, among other pillars essential for national growth and development.
Goronyo stated this at the presentation of the book titled “Military Law in Nigeria: A Guide to Practice and Procedure, co-authored by Barrister Rashidat Mohammed, Chairperson, Caliphate Bar, Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Sokoto State chapter.
The Minister noted that the Armed Forces of Nigeria continue to play a pivotal role in safeguarding our sovereignty, maintaining peace, and addressing complex security challenges.
In doing so, the role of military law becomes indispensable. It provides the framework that ensures discipline, accountability, and justice within the system.
“Military Law in Nigeria: A Quick Reference Guide to Practice and Procedure is a timely and significant contribution to legal scholarship and military professionalism.
Its practical orientation makes it an essential tool not only for military legal practitioners but also for officers, scholars, and students who seek a clear and accessible understanding of military legal processes.
“What stands out about this work is its clarity and relevance. It bridges the often-complex gap between legal theory and real-world application. By doing so, it strengthens institutional integrity and promotes adherence to the rule of law within the Armed Forces.
“As a nation, we must continue to invest in knowledge, research, and institutional development. Strong institutions are not built on power alone, but on discipline, knowledge, and respect for legal frameworks.”
While commending the author(s), editors, and all contributors for their dedication, intellectual rigour, and commitment to advancing legal and military studies in Nigeria, Goronyo dedicated the book to all those who serve our nation diligently — both in uniform and in civil capacities — working tirelessly to uphold justice, peace, and national unity.
The Minister also encouraged all stakeholders, members of the Armed Forces, legal practitioners, members of academia, and policymakers to embrace this work, make use of it, and build upon its foundation.
He noted that the book will serve as a guide, a reference, and an inspiration for continuous improvement in the administration of military justice in Nigeria.
Speaking at the event, Governor Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto, represented by his Deputy, Alhaji Idris Mohammed Gobir, said the event was to celebrate excellence and extol the remarkable contributions of Barrister Goronyo to the development of Sokoto State.
Gov. Aliyu also said that the contributions of the Minister are as enduring as they are impactful, saying that the book is timely and significant.
The Governor also stated that the military is central to national security, describing the book as indispensable to scholarship in the country.
He added, “The book is a vital resource in Nigeria, and it will deepen knowledge in this specialised field.”
Also speaking, a renowned lawyer in the state, Barrister A. Y. Abubakar, described the author as an erudite scholar and a distinguished legal luminary.
Abubakar further stated that the event was to celebrate excellence in public service, opining that the contributions of the Minister have remained enduring.
He noted that the book is a motivation to present and future leaders in the country, describing it as timely and invaluable to the field of military law.
“The book will serve as a legal resource. We are here to celebrate the achievements of the Minister.”
On his part, the Chief Judge of Sokoto State, Justice Muhammad Sa’idu Sifawa, said, “This gathering is to celebrate one of our own, the Minister.
“He started his practice here in Sokoto, and he has worked at various levels in Sokoto State and in the federal service.
“Barrister Goronyo is resilient, diligent, and energetic. He has been active, and he is ever-ready to deliver results in any assignment given to him.”
Justice Sifawa also applauded Sen. Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, Sarkin Yamman Sokoto and Senator representing Sokoto North Senatorial District, for ceaselessly believing in and having tremendous confidence in the Minister.
The Chairman of the historic occasion, Sen. Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, remarked that the title of the book is very vital to law practice in Nigeria.
According to the former Governor of Sokoto State, the book will bolster knowledge, and he extolled the efforts of the authors.
Sen. Wamakko further commended all those who facilitated the successful conduct of the all-important event.
The author, Barrister Ibrahim Abdullahi, SAN, recalled that he had written nineteen books so far, saying, “Only this one was publicly presented.”
“This is because of the personality of the Minister,” describing Goronyo as a friend and brother.
Abdullahi also said that the Minister has recorded many achievements both at the national and state levels, traversing the executive, judiciary, and legislative arms of government.
He added that the book will serve as a reference guide to the military and the Armed Forces of Nigeria in general.
