On Tuesday, the Federal High Court sitting in Kaduna granted bail to former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, in an ongoing corruption case filed by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).
Justice Rilwanu Aikawa, who delivered the ruling, admitted the former governor to bail in the sum of ₦200 million, with two sureties in like sum.
However, the court ordered that El-Rufai remain in ICPC custody pending the fulfilment of the bail conditions.
As part of the conditions, the sureties are required to deposit their international passports with the court.
The court also directed that one surety must be a civil servant not below Grade Level 15, while the other must be a recognised traditional ruler.

Also, El-Rufai is barred from making public comments on the case and must attend all court proceedings.
The ruling followed an earlier adjournment from April 1, when the court reserved its decision after hearing arguments from both prosecution and defence.
Counsel to the former governor, Ubong Akpan, declined to comment after the proceedings. However, his son, Bello El-Rufai, confirmed that bail had been granted.
A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, Hayatudeen Lawal Makarfi, also corroborated the development, noting that the conditions attached to the bail must be fully met before El-Rufai can regain his freedom.
Meanwhile, a separate bail application involving the former governor at the Kaduna State High Court has been adjourned until April 21, 2026, further prolonging the legal proceedings against him.
