A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former Acting Chairman of the Federal Character Commission (FCC), Hon. Kayode Oladele, has commended the leadership of the party in Ogun State for adopting Senator Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, as the consensus candidate for the forthcoming governorship election.
Oladele, in a statement made available to newsmen on Monday, described the decision as “A demonstration of courage, foresight, and strategic leadership,” noting that it would strengthen party unity and position the APC for victory.
He said the adoption of Yayi reflects the party’s long-standing commitment to discipline, cohesion, and internal democracy, stressing that consensus remains one of the most effective mechanisms for managing party interests without unnecessary division.
According to him, “Moments like this define the character of a political party. The decision of the APC leadership in Ogun State to rally behind a consensus candidate is a clear indication that the party remains focused, united, and forward-looking.”
Oladele added that by avoiding a potentially divisive primary contest, the party has taken a decisive step toward consolidating its strength ahead of the election.
He noted that Senator Adeola is a tested political figure with proven capacity, wide acceptance, and a strong grassroots connection across Ogun Central, Ogun East, and Ogun West.
“His track record in public service, his political reach, and his ability to command support across the state make him a unifying figure and the most viable candidate for the party,” he said.
The APC chieftain further stated that the party leadership’s decision aligns with global best practices in political strategy, where strong institutions prioritise winnability and cohesion over internal contestation.
“Consensus is not a sign of weakness; it is a mark of political maturity and strength. It shows that the party is more interested in victory and stability than in unnecessary internal struggles,” Oladele stated.
He called on party members, stakeholders, and supporters across the state to close ranks and rally behind the candidate, emphasising that unity would be critical to securing victory at the polls.
Oladele expressed confidence that with the level of support already enjoyed by Yayi, the APC is well-positioned to retain power in Ogun State.
“The task ahead is for all of us to consolidate this decision and work together as one indivisible family. With unity, discipline, and commitment, victory is assured,” he said.
He added, “The APC has once again demonstrated leadership. What this means is that all stakeholders have keyed into the same direction and are moving forward together.
