The National Hydro-Electric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (N-HYPPADEC) has donated ten million naira and assorted food items to victims of recent bandit attacks in Kebbi.

The Managing Director of the Agency, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq-Yelwa, announced the donation during a condolence visit in Shanga LGA, where he sympathised with the government and the people of the state over the recent banditry incident that affected many villages in the area.

Those to benefit are from the affected villages of Kawara, Binuwa, Kalkami, Dabe, Kasoshi, Kafar Giwa and Sa Madubi communities in Shanga Local Government Area of the state.

He described the attacks as catastrophic and condemnable, adding that the attackers aimed at disrupting peace and the livelihoods of innocent residents, as the commission considered it necessary to provide immediate support to cushion the impact of the attacks on affected communities.

According to Managing, the items also included cooking oil, seasoning, detergents, soap, blankets and mats to be shared among the victims to alleviate their suffering.

The Managing Director also commended the government’s commitments under Governor Nasir Idris’s administration for its response to insecurity and expressed confidence that peace would be restored in the affected areas.

Responding, Gov. Idris, represented by the Commissioner for Rural and Community Development, Alhaji Garba Salisu-Takware, thanked N-HYPPADEC for the timely intervention and assured that the cash donation and relief materials would be distributed judiciously to the affected victims.

The Commissioner said that the state government had already put measures in place to cater for displaced persons, while intensifying efforts to strengthen security across the state.

Alh. Sadiq Yelwa also visited the Emir of Yauri, Dr Muhammad Zayyanu-Abdullahi, to condole with him over the incident.

The emir commended the commission for its support and solidarity with the victims at a difficult time.
