Lagos Hosts Summit to Unlock Capital for Africa’s Future

Global leaders, private investors, and philanthropists are set to converge on Lagos for the 2026 Africa Social Impact Summit to mobilise transformative capital for the continent’s emerging economies.

Co-convened by the Sterling One Foundation and the United Nations in Nigeria, the summit aims to bridge the financing gap for critical sectors, including healthcare, education, and youth development, as Africa prepares for a demographic shift to 2.5 billion people by 2050.

The high-level gathering focuses on “Financing for Development” as a catalyst for long-term resilience. By uniting over 2,000 delegates from 50 countries, the summit seeks to move beyond traditional aid towards market-led solutions and innovative financing models that can scale sustainable growth across the continent’s diverse markets.

In a statement signed by Chiwendu Isaiah, PR and Communications specialist at the Sterling One Foundation, the summit is positioned as a critical intervention for the continent as it enters its most consequential development decade.

The summit aims to move beyond mere discussion to mobilise the capital and partnerships necessary to support a population projected to reach 2.5 billion by 2050. A United Nations Resident Coordinator in Nigeria, Mohamed Fall, emphasised the urgency of this collective effort, stating, “The Africa Social Impact Summit provides a powerful platform for bringing together governments, the private sector and development partners to accelerate progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals.”

This sentiment was echoed by a board member of Sterling One Foundation and Managing Director of Sterling Bank, Abubakar Suleiman, who noted that “collaboration across sectors will be essential to unlocking the continent’s potential”, while adding that Africa’s challenges “also present immense opportunities for innovation and partnership”.

Nigeria’s Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Abubakar Bagudu, further reinforced the government’s support, remarking, “Strengthening collaboration between government, investors and development partners is critical to accelerating economic growth, improving livelihoods and advancing sustainable development across the continent.” Organisers have designed the 2026 edition to focus on high-growth sectors such as healthcare, education, climate resilience, and the creative economy.

Highlighting the ambition of the convening, Olapeju Ibekwe, CEO of Sterling One Foundation, said, “The Africa Social Impact Summit was created to convene the boldest thinkers, investors and development leaders committed to shaping Africa’s future.”

By bringing together over 2,000 delegates from more than 50 countries, the summit aims to establish a catalytic space where “platforms like ASIS help unlock the transformative solutions Africa needs for inclusive and sustainable development”, ultimately securing long-term prosperity for the world’s largest future youth workforce.
