Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State on Saturday visited over 50 victims recently rescued from bandits in Alkaleri Local Government Area, describing their ordeal as traumatic and deeply distressing.
The Governor, who was at Duguri Primary Healthcare Centre where the victims are receiving treatment, commiserated with them and assured of government support towards their recovery and reintegration into society.
Many of the victims, currently undergoing medical and psychological care, narrated their experiences during the Governor’s visit, prompting renewed concern over the impact of insecurity on vulnerable communities.
Bala Mohammed noted that several of the victims were unsuspecting individuals caught up in illegal mining activities, which exposed them to danger.
The Governor also used the period to stressed the need for greater public awareness on the risks associated with such practices.
While pledging continued assistance, including rehabilitation and healthcare services, the Governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to protecting lives and restoring peace in affected areas through sustained collaboration with security agencies.
