The Vice Chancellor, Ekiti State University (EKSU), Professor Joseph Babatola Ayodele, has described the graduates EKSU as not merely products of an institution, but architects of a brighter future.
Professor Ayodele made this remark at the 30th convocation of the school, where ten thousand, nine hundred and fifty-nine graduates were conferred with Diplomas, Bachelor’s and Postgraduate Degrees.
In his speech, titled, Forty-Four Years Of Existence, the university administrator explained that each year, the institution convenes under the banner of achievement to reaffirm the dedication to creating an environment where academic rigour meets social responsibility:
“Our graduates have not only excelled in their studies, but they have also engaged with the world around them, embracing challenges as opportunities for growth. They carry with them the potential to reshape industries, inspire generations and uplift communities.
He remarked that as the institution was honouring the remarkable journey of its graduates, it was apposite to also pay tribute to the unwavering support of the faculty, staff, and families who played an instrumental role in the journey.
The VC said: ”Our university community stands as a testament to resilience, cooperation and shared aspirations. Together, we commit to building a university that not only competes nationally and globally but also serves our society in meaningful ways, ensuring that the legacy of Ekiti State University endures for generations to come.
Chancellor of the institution, Dr Tunji Olowolafe, stated that transforming education in Nigeria means investing in the educators. According to him,” the society must go beyond lecturing in the theatre to acquainting students with the diversity of success in life. Every university needs industry leaders, not guest speakers, but educators”, Olowolafe said.
The Chancellor pledged to give each of the eighty-two First-class graduates N500,000 through his Foundation, while some of them will equally be offered employment in some of his business outfits. Dr Olowolafe pointed out that nothing worthwhile can be achieved without hard work.
Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Professor Akin Oyebode, noted that the stability and progress enjoyed by the university are not accidental, but products of deliberate government reforms, financial prudence and adherence to statutory responsibilities.
” Our goals remain to be clear: to position Ekiti State University as a globally competitive institution rooted in excellence, integrity and innovation”.
He assured the guests that the Governing Council remains committed to providing strategic leadership, ensuring sound governance, transparency, accountability and sustainable development within the institution, added that:
” We recognise that the university is not merely a centre for awarding degrees, they are citadels of innovation, character formation and national development”.
Prizes were awarded to graduates who excelled in their various fields.
