NANS Stakeholders Back Tinubu, Adopts Alfred As Ebonyi Sole Candidate


The Stakeholders Forum of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Ebonyi State, has endorsed the aspirations of President Bola Tinubu and Governor Francis Nwifuru’s re-election in the 2027 general election.

The Forum made the declaration at the weekend in Abakaliki in a communique read by its Chairman, Okoro Offor Joshua, at the end of its meeting/formal endorsement of Comrade Nwuruku Olisa Alfred, as the sole candidate for senate presidency in the forthcoming national convention of the association.

The forum comprised past and present student leaders, zonal and campus representatives, critical stakeholders across the various strata of the Nigerian student movement, and key actors within the student constituency of Ebonyi State.

The communique noted that the meeting was convened to deliberate on the forthcoming election into the Office of the President of the Senate, National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS).

It noted that the adoption of Nwuruku was based on his competence, experience, capacity, commitment to the ideals and advancement of the Nigerian student movement.”

It equally highlighted his track record within NANS, describing him as a committed leader who has distinguished himself through effective mobilisation, strategic coordination, and selfless service.

They expressed confidence that his emergence would reposition the NANS Senate as a vibrant and functional legislative body, capable of advancing the welfare and rights of Nigerian students.

“The forum is convinced that his leadership will herald a new era for the NANS Senate; all student leaders and stakeholders across Ebonyi state must unite and support his candidacy”

The meeting also called on Nigerian students nationwide to actively participate in the 2027 general elections, while emphasising the need for peaceful conduct, rejection of electoral malpractice, and adherence to democratic values.

In addition, the forum commended the federal government for the implementation of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), describing it as a critical intervention for expanding access to higher education.

In their separate remarks, the Special Assistant to the Ebonyi State Governor on Student Affairs, Comrade Joshua Nwafor, and the Special Assistant on Student Mobilisation, Comrade Angel Odono, described the endorsement as a significant step for the state’s student community.

In his acceptance speech, Comrade Nwuruku expressed gratitude to the stakeholders for the confidence reposed in him, describing the endorsement as a call to service he would not take for granted.
