The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Adamawa State has been engulfed in a political crisis threatening to tear the needed opposition party apart.
The current crisis spearheaded by a former Governor and two influential senators is reportedly on the verge of dumping the party in protest against the controversial imposition of Sadiq Dasin as the State Chairman of the party.
The ADC in Adamawa is said to have fractured into multiple camps, including factions loyal to the state chairman, Senator Aisha Binani, Senator Ishaku Abbo, and Jibrilla Bindow.
A source within the party hierarchy who disclosed this to New Telegraph on Thursday noted that Senator Aishatu Dahiru Binani and Senator Binos Abbo have reached the end of their friendship, saying “they can no longer be willing to tolerate such an act of injustice”.
According to the source, “they are not happy with the decision to impose a chairman on them, adding that such imposition undermines the democratic process within the party”.
In the same vein, Jibrilla Bindow’s supporting group held a closed-door meeting in Yola to discuss the way forward amid factional divisions within the party.
However, political observers believed that the trio’s potential exit could further weaken the party’s structure in Adamawa, especially as it eyes a stronger performance in the forthcoming polls.
“They can’t take the injustice anymore and are seriously considering leaving the ADC”, the source added.
The development comes barely weeks after Sadiq Dasin was announced as the new ADC chairman in Adamawa, a move that has reportedly triggered deep resentment among key stakeholders who felt sidelined in the process.
Political pundits say the three heavyweight politicians with strong grassroots followership and political influence in the state viewed the imposition as a clear violation of internal democracy and an attempt to foist leadership without consultation or consensus.
The crisis is the latest in a series of internal wranglings rocking the ADC in Adamawa, raising fresh questions about the party’s stability and ability to present a united front.
Meanwhile, efforts to reach the senators and the appointed Chairman for comments proved unsuccessful as of press time.
