I Struggle To Accept Love Because Of Self-Rejection- Tems

Grammy-award-winning Nigerian singer, Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems has opened up about her struggles with self-rejection, revealing that it affected her relationships with people who cared for her.

Tems, in an interview with Angie Martinez, revealed that she found it hard to accept affection from other people because she was used to rejecting herself.

“I feel like I had been in my mind, rejected so much that when I found people that finally accepted me, because I’m used, I was so used to rejecting myself, I couldn’t accept their love.

“I couldn’t accept that, their acceptance. I rejected myself before anybody else, so I was waiting for the rejection. I was expecting it. That was my normal daily life”, she said.

Tems emphasized the value of self-awareness and urged others to consider and comprehend their anxieties.

Recognizing one’s thoughts and feelings is essential to overcoming self-rejection, according to the Lagos-born artist, who is well-known for her smash song “Damages” and partnerships with Wizkid, Beyoncé, and Drake.

She stated, “I always encourage people to become aware.”

With her recent collaboration on the song “Raindance” with British rapper Dave, Tems has been in the news.

Among her accomplishments is that she was nominated for an Academy Award for co-writing Rihanna’s song “Lift Me Up” from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
