Indigenes of Akure, the Ondo State capital in the All Progressives Congress (APC) have thrown their weight behind calls for an indigenous governor to emerge in the state after the tenure of incumbent Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa.

The leaders and elders of Akure extraction reaffirmed their loyalty to President Bola Tinubu and Aiyedatiwa announcing plans to mobilise for the reelection of President Tinubu in next year’s election.

In a communiqué issued at the end of a stakeholders’ meeting signed by Prince Tony Ala alongside other party leaders, including Sunday Adejuyigbe, Ifedayo Ologometa, Dele Faboro, Idowu Otetubi, and Femi Bello, they stressed the need for equity, fairness and political inclusiveness, arguing that Akure, as the state capital, is ripe and deserves a shot at producing the next governor of the state.

Other leaders included, Elder Micheal Olusanya Ojuola, Ifedayo Adewole, Oluranti Fakinlede, Sunday Faleye, Muyiwa Adebayo (MAO), Enas Mohammed, Francis Belonwu, Rev Abisola Oluwatayo, and Mr Ayo Alabi among others.

According to them, the demand reflects the aspirations of the people of Akure speaking communities and aligns with the broader goal of balanced representation across the state.

The communique read: “The leaders are resolved to strategically position a qualified indigene of Akure for the next governorship election of Ondo State after the tenure of Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa and to work collectively towards achieving victory.”
