Strong indications have emerged that Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, may be heading to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), as political realignments intensify ahead of the 2027 elections.
The governor dropped the clearest hint yet during a meeting with an ADC delegation led by Babachir David Lawal, revealing that his camp had exhausted reconciliation efforts within the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
Mohammed revealed that he has been under increasing pressure from political allies to take a decisive step amid lingering internal crises within the PDP.
“We cannot go where we are not wanted,” the governor stated, pointing to failed reconciliation attempts and strained relationships within the party.
He disclosed that committees set up at both national and state levels had reviewed multiple options, including possible alignment with the All Progressives Congress (APC), before narrowing focus on opposition platforms.
Earlier, Lawal said the delegation was sent by former Senate President David Mark to engage the governor on the need for opposition unity ahead of 2027.
He stressed that collaboration among like-minded political actors was necessary to prevent what he described as a looming national crisis.
Lawal, speaking on behalf of the delegation, described Mohammed as a “key political force” whose entry into the ADC would significantly alter the balance of power ahead of 2027.
Our correspondent reports that political observers say the ADC’s growing profile as a coalition platform for opposition figures may have influenced the governor’s consideration.
Some of the analysts believe a final decision by the Bauchi governor could trigger wider defections and reshape opposition politics in northern Nigeria.
