The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced that it has taken its ongoing leadership dispute to the Supreme Court of Nigeria for final determination.
In a statement on Monday, 30 March, 2026, signed by the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Ini Ememobong, PDP expressed confidence that the judiciary will resolve the crisis in the interest of democracy.
The party said the decision followed a series of “disturbing developments” within the last 48 hours, which have raised concerns among members nationwide about the future of the party and Nigeria’s multi-party system.

The PDP alleged that a recent gathering, described by its organisers as a convention, was conducted in violation of ongoing legal proceedings, noting that the matter is already before the courts.
“For the avoidance of doubt, we state that the pre-Easter jamboree of APC sympathisers and members of “Wike’s Autocratic Party”, which they mischievously tagged a PDP convention, was held in contempt of the Court of Appeal, where parties had entered appearances and agreed with the Court on the way to proceed with the matter, only to turn around and undertake acts capable of destroying the res. Furthermore, they were served with the processes of the appeal at the Supreme Court, as well as other suits challenging the holding of the said convention. The validity of that gathering is now a matter before the court, which we will diligently follow to its conclusion,” the statement read.
The party insisted that the legitimacy of the event would be determined through due judicial process.
The opposition party also reacted to a ruling by the Federal High Court in Abuja, which reportedly granted a faction access to the PDP national secretariat. It disclosed that its legal team has been directed to file an appeal and other applications challenging the judgment.
Furthermore, the PDP accused the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of allegedly orchestrating the internal crisis to weaken opposition parties and undermine Nigeria’s democratic structure.
“These crises are clearly orchestrated by the Bola Tinubu-led APC government, who have shown morbid fear for the existence of alternative political platforms, and are determined to foist a one-party state on the country,” the party further alleged.
Despite the challenges, the PDP urged its members and Nigerians to remain hopeful, expressing confidence that the Supreme Court would uphold constitutional provisions and protect the integrity of the country’s multi-party democracy.
