Amaechi, Obi Arrive Kano As Kwankwaso Picks ADC Membership Card


Former Transport Minister, Rotimi Amaechi and Former Labour Party Presidential candidate, Peter Obi on Monday arrived in Kano State as former Kano State governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, officially receives his membership card of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Amaechi was received by the former Deputy Governor of Kano State, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, upon his arrival in the state.

The ADC membership card presentation to Kwankwaso follows his official defection from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to ADC on Sunday, 29 March 2026.

He cited the current political trajectory in the country and the need for realignment as his reasons for the defection.

“However, considering the current trajectory of the nation’s political landscape, which calls for strategic realignment, I have found it necessary to identify with another political platform that offers the best opportunity to effectively change the nation,” Kwankwaso noted in his resignation letter addressed to the leadership of NNPP.

While appreciating the National Chairman of NNPP, Ajuji Ahmed and the entire National Working Committee for their steadfast support throughout his time, Kwankwaso assured of his readiness for future collaborations with the party in the progress of the country.

“I also thank the Board of Trustees, the National Executive Committee, and all levels of leadership across the party — from the ward to the state level, as well as the legacy members of the party and all followers of the Kwankwasiyya Movement for their dedication and commitment to our shared mission.

“We shall continue to collaborate and work together towards charting a better and more prosperous future for our dear nation,” he said.
