The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has recorded another breakthrough in its crackdown on railway vandalism, with arrest and prosecution of a suspected track vandal in Lagos.
The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, NRC, Dr Kayode Opeifa, said this in a statement yesterday in Lagos. Opeifa noted that the 32-year-old suspect was arrested on Thursday by Multi Eye Security Services at Mobolaji Johnson Train Station, Ebute-Metta, during patrol.
“He was caught in possession of 15 pandrol clips believed to have been unlawfully removed from the narrow gauge corridor at Alagomeji.
“These components are critical to track stability, and their removal poses serious safety risks, including potential derailment,” Opeifa said. He said following arrest, the suspect was handed to the Nigerian Railway Police Command for investigation and prosecution.
