…Many killed, others injured
The Plateau State Government has imposed a 48-hour curfew on Jos North Local Government Area following a deadly security breach that claimed lives and left several others injured in the Angwan Rukuba community.
The tragic incident, which occurred on Sunday at Gari Ya Waye, has heightened tension across the area, prompting swift action by authorities to forestall further breakdown of law and order.
The Commissioner for Information and Communication, Rt. Hon. Joyce Lohya Ramnap, in a Press Statement signed and issued on Sunday evening, said the curfew takes effect at midnight on March 29 and will run until April 1, 2026.
The restriction, enforced in collaboration with security agencies, is aimed at restoring calm and enabling security operatives to stabilise the situation.
Governor Caleb Mutfwang condemned the attack, describing it as “barbaric and unprovoked,” and vowed that those behind the violence would be tracked down and brought to justice.
The government reassured residents that decisive steps are underway to secure lives and property, urging citizens to remain calm, vigilant, and law-abiding during the curfew period.
Residents were also called upon to cooperate with security agencies by volunteering credible information that could aid ongoing investigations and security operations.
New Telegraph reports that Security presence has since been intensified across Jos North, with authorities warning that violators of the curfew order will be dealt with in accordance with the law.
