The political atmosphere in Plateau State reverberated with optimism and renewed confidence at the weekend as key leaders, including Governor Caleb Mutfwang, Senator Istifanus Dung Gyang and Senator Simon Lalong, rolled out glowing tributes to Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda Goshwe on his emergence as National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC)

Prof. Goshwe’s emergence at the party’s National Convention in Abuja has been widely applauded as a watershed moment, one that signals a recalibration of the ruling party’s internal dynamics and a bold march towards consolidation ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Governor Mutfwang, in a press statement issued through Director of Press Dr Gyang Bere, he described the consensus-driven process that produced the new Chairman as a testament to the APC’s maturing democratic ethos under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Mutfwang pointed Yilwatda leadership credentials to his reform-driven initiatives since 2025, including reconciliation among aggrieved members, digital reorganisation of party structures and strategic repositioning for electoral victories.

“His expertise in digital transformation, energy research and electoral administration places him in a vantage position to steer the party to greater heights,” Mutfwang stated, expressing confidence in a decisive APC victory in 2027.

He further commended top national figures, including the Vice President Sen. Kashim Shettima, Senate President Sen. Godswill Akpabio and Speaker Housed of Reps Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, alongside governors and party stakeholders, for zoning the chairmanship to the North Central zone, particularly Plateau State an act he described as both strategic and unifying.

He expressed optimism that the new chairman would deepen internal democracy while advancing the progressive ideals of the APC.

“As you take on this responsibility, your leadership will inspire trust, strengthen unity and reposition the party for greater national relevance,” Gyang said.

On his part, Senator Simon Lalong Representing Plateau North in the National Assembly described the outcome of the convention as a clear affirmation of the party’s cohesion and shared vision. He noted that the smooth conduct of the exercise underscored the APC’s organisational strength and collective resolve.

Lalong, who played a strategic role in the convention, expressed confidence that under Goshwe’s stewardship, the party would consolidate its gains and continue to support the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

He also acknowledged Governor Mutfwang’s role in galvanising Plateau’s delegation, noting that his leadership contributed significantly to the state’s strong showing at the convention.
