Bature Group Insists On Wike-Backed Convention

A Sokoto-based political organisation within the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), advocating the re-election of the former National Organising Secretary, Hon. Umar Bature, has strongly refuted claims by the Sokoto State chapter of the party distancing itself from the ongoing national elective convention in Abuja.

The group described as “false, misleading, and a misrepresentation of facts” a statement credited to the Sokoto State PDP Publicity Secretary, Hassan Sanyinnawal, which purportedly dissociated the state chapter from the convention scheduled to hold at the National Stadium, Abuja.

In a press statement issued by the Chairman of the organisation, Dr Abubakar Danmafara, the group maintained that the position expressed by the state publicity secretary does not reflect the views of the majority of PDP members in Sokoto State.

According to the statement, “We wish to categorically state that Sokoto State remains an integral part of the PDP and cannot be excluded from such a crucial national exercise. The attempt to distance the state from the convention is not only unfortunate but also misleading.”

Dr. Abubakar Dannafara further revealed that hundreds of party faithful from Sokoto State are already in Abuja to participate in the convention, stressing their unwavering commitment to the unity and progress of the party.

He added that the group and its supporters are fully mobilised and prepared to take part in the electoral process, particularly in support of the re-election bid of Hon. Umar Bature as National Organising Secretary.

“The presence of our members in Abuja is a clear demonstration of our resolve to remain active stakeholders in the affairs of the PDP. We are committed to strengthening internal democracy and ensuring that credible leaders emerge through a transparent process,” the statement added.

The group also emphasized that participation in the convention, reportedly backed by key stakeholders within the party, is both necessary and legitimate, urging all members to disregard any contrary directives aimed at discouraging involvement.

Reaffirming their loyalty to the PDP, the organisation called on party leaders at all levels to prioritize unity, dialogue, and inclusiveness in resolving internal disagreements.

“We believe that the success of the PDP depends on the collective efforts of its members across all states.

“Sokoto State cannot afford to be left behind in shaping the future of the party,” Dr Danmafara stated.

The group concluded by urging delegates and stakeholders to remain focused, law-abiding, and committed to the ideals of the party throughout the convention process.
